It's a Mauser action, Serbian-made rifle, branded and sold by Remington. Does anyone have opinions or better yet, real-world experience with this rifle?

TIA

Well, I have no experience with them.  It was formerly sold as the Interarms Mark X....I have heard that the quality of the new rifles is not quite as good as the ones from before the war in Yugoslavia in the ninties.

I once owned a Whitworth ( same rifle, actually, with a little better finish than the Mark X )  but I traded it away for an older, collectible rifle that I wanted and I never even shot the Whitworth.....I traded it away brand new.....The Whitworth seemed like a nice rifle as I handled it in my house......Bucky

That's funny, I was just Googling reviews for the 798 and was getting ready to ask here. Most of the reviews I saw so far are less then favorable.

I've looked at and handled a few in the "safari" model at the gun shop, but thats about it.  No actual field experience with it, the safari line intriuges me though.

Is the Safari coming with a scope mounted? I think I would like something with open sights, but most [new] rifles are drilled for scope mounts, no open sights. Oh, yes, the Safari is chambered for rather large calibers...
For some reasons, the rifles are getting more and more like cars: hard to get something you really like unless you pay extra for a lot of features you don't really need...

You can always put open sights on anything you have.....better ones than the factory would give you, too!!!    Big Grin
