I bought a rifle that currently has 2 piece Leupold DD bases on it that I will not be using.  I've got a new set of Burris Signature DD rings and bases on the way that I plan on using instead with the new VX-R I just got.  Is there anything special I need to pay attention to or do when I remove the old bases and install the new ones?  This will be my first attempt at installing bases, rings, and a scope myself, and I want to do it right the first time.  All suggestions, tips, and advice appreciated.  Thanks.

Clean well before installing new bases. I usually do a wipe-off with isopropyl alcohol. Most folks use blue Loctite on the threads. Torque to specs.

Torque to specs not to what feels tight.  If you dont' have a torque wrench there are some tricks so that you don't strip or break the screws.

Clean the area well, test fit with screws only started and after making sure clearance is there then snug up.

Thanks for the info.  I have blue Loctite and torque wrenches, so once I have the torque specs, guess I'm good to go.
