Hello,
New to the forum and I look forward to reading all of the interesting topics. I'm going to jumper right in with a question about my new Celestron Regal M2 65MM spotting scope. This is my first spotting scope and I chose it based on price and performance from other users. I didn't want to go "austrian or german" yet because I don't know if the performance is worth it base on my needs which will be at the shooting range. Today I set up a 3x3 inch USAF 1951 resolution test target 46 feet away and a $20 dollar bill under it to do a rough test on the resolution. The test target was printed from a high resolution pdf on my laser jet printer on 96 brightness white paper. All of the the Groups and Patterns are sharp and easy to see the 3 vertical and horizontal lines. When viewing at 48x, I was able to resolve all lines in Group 1, Element 6 at 46 feet away. (FYI...using my calipers, Pattern 6 in Group 1 measures 1mm square). I could easily see all the detail on the $20 bill too. Even at lower settings, the resolution was just as clear. My question is, does this constitute good resolution or can any cheap scope do this at 46 feet away such as the barska scopes? What can a good Austrian or German scope do? |
