i currently use weaver mounts and leupold rings on most of my rifles.i was thinking about trying some tactical rings . with tactical rings on weaver mounts what will break first the rings or the screws holding the mount on. thanks

Hard to say. A lot probably depends on the direction of the impact.
I've always maintained that there's probably a downside to having mounts that are "too" strong in certain circumstances.
By that I mean that at some point a hard impact force will damage the scope and/or rifle connected together by a very strong mounting system, whereas with a "weak" mount, said impact force may break the two apart before serious damage occurs to either. Only the relatively inexpensive mount would then need to be replaced.
Sort of a "Breakaway Point" or "Fuse" if you will...
(I'm not advocating junk mounts here, but anybody giving this a few seconds of logical thought should be able to figure out what I'm saying and apply it appropriatly to his particular situation.)
For instance, you're hunting on horseback with your rifle in a stout leather scabbard.
One of the packhorses starts to act screwy and gets his lead rope looped around the ocular bell of your new Swarovski. Which do you want to fail first as the horses move apart, the scopetube or the $20 Weaver Quadlock rings?
Hint: it won't be the packhorse!
Not really making any suggestions here one way or another.
Just offering food for thought...,.
