Anyone know the difference in the two? Looking at a 93.  Look very similar but i'm sure I am missing something.  The one I am looking at is a 22mag.  They have it in 17HMR too but I think the 22mag is cheaper to shoot wouldn't you say? as well as more versitle

I just have a Mark II (heavy barrel) in .22 so I can't compare anything, other than when I was looking for 10-rd mags. for it I noticed a lot more results came up for the 93. Whatever combo of model and cartridge you get, I'd check on magazine availability and prices.

Also, re-stocking it there weren't many choices for my Mark II. (I still haven't changed stocks yet). Otherwise, just commenting on what I do have, it shoots well.

Only difference between the Savage 93 and the Mark II (apart from certain options) is the 93 is chambered for .22 Mag and the Mark II for .22LR...Savage recently changed design so they both use the same receiver now.

Also, 17 series is .17HMR.

I own a Savage Mark II BTVLSS in .22LR and that puts 5 shots into a 1/2 inch ragged hole at 25 metres...I don't shoot anymore I don't see any point in wasting ammo as I can't see where the bullet goes. Big Grin

Also I pretty certain that you can only get 10 round magazines for .22 LR...5 round for .22 Mag and .17HMR...

I have the Mark II in .17 HM2  I like it pretty well. Boyds offers a thumbhole stock for about 100 beans so I'll likely add it sooner rather than later.

I've only had mine to the range 1 time and only had Eley ammo with me. I was hoping for tighter groups at 100 yards than I got. I've got 2 more types of ammo for it now and will post when I'm able to see if I can get groups smaller than tennis ball sized. Thumbs Down  I have an old Marlin .22 mag that does quarter sized groups and was hoping for the same with the Savage Mark II but with Eley ammo it didn't happen. The gun functions well though, and I'm hoping with better ammo I get better results.

If God didn't want me to play with it, he'd of made my arms shorter.

Try not only different manufacturers of ammo but different velocity ammo as well.

When I recently bought my Mark II, I lurked around different boards to see what ammo everyone was using to get their Mark II shooting accurate. I ended up buying bricks (500) of CCI Green Tag, SK Match, Fed Gold Medal Match, Federal Blue Box Standard Velocity. I took my Mark II out and starting shooting and was getting groups of about 1" at 25m. Got sick of that and decided to use these cheap packets of Winchester Wildcat High Velocity .22 that I had sitting around. Where I live (Australia) Winchester Wildcat is the most dirtiest, cheapest ($35 a brick of 500), sh*ttiest ammo you can get. Trying that ammo, my groups shrunk to less than half an inch. Loco I only shoot 5 shot groups as after 5 you can't see where the shots go as it's just one ragged hole on the paper target.

Anyone want some packets of CCI Green Tag or Fed Gold Medal Match???
