So, for a Savage Model 10 Package deal they sell at Walmart and similar, I know the rings are supposed to be very crappy. So thinking of throwing a set of Weaver rings on there, which I know aren't great, but they will hopefully be decent for a hunting rifle. Are these an okay choice? So anyway, should I change the base too? Or are the bases that come with these rifles fine and it just the rings that need changing?

I know a lot of people that have cheep rings and bases and scopes for that matter that hunt, and they have no problems. It is hard to say without looking at them or knowing exactly what brand they are. If the mounts tighten down  firm without any movement and the rings fit tight in the spot for them without movement then it should be good to go. There will be some that say you need x bases and y rings, but the trueth of the matter is this. Higher quality will usually fit better and last longer, but that does not mean the cheep ones will faill 100% of the time. The likelihood is just greater.

If it holds your scope and the point of impact does not start shifting on you do to scope movement then your good to go. Now if you do not want to take a chance on it get quality and have the ease of mind that that brings.
