Friend recommended SWFA and prices are competitive after much comparison.

Looking to scope my WB Vanguard  30-06 with a reasonable $ hunting scope and the budget is pointing toward the Leupold VX-3i 3.5-10x40 and the SWFA SS 2.5-10x32 Ultralight

Seems folks like  Or really don't like Leupolds - not sure what improvements were made in 2016 with the i addition.

Friend compared his scopes ( same as above) and liked the SWFA model for late evening clarity- which doesn't track with the smaller objective lens unless the  glass is better....

So optimistically looking for some last minute comments / recommendations before I catch the 7 day special.  thanks

First, I am not a Loopy fan, so no help there.

Next, I have the SS 2.5-10. Glass isn't bad, eye relief is short. If the 06 is a heavy recoil rifle, the scope will eventually bite you. I have not checked tracking much as it is a "zero and forget" application, no turret spinning.

Great screen name Rancid!! Thanks for the input.

The listings on SWFA do not show details like eye relief.  I can research other sources for most brands but have no idea about SS.  ( is SS even the brand ?? )

I'll be scanning the board for other write-ups-  thanks to all for sharing info.Clap

They do show eye relief and stuff on almost all scopes.  You need to click the specifications tab.

SWFA SS is the brand.  It is the house brand for SWFA.

The transition from VX-3 to VX-3i was mostly a re-design of the outside of the scope to make it a little less expensive to make.  They also cut down on the number of different models.

I am not a huge fan of the VX-3i line, but it is perfectly serviceable.

SWFA's 2.5-20x32 is not really designed to compete against the 3.5-10x40 VX-3i since the objective lens is so different in size.  Leupodl used to make a line of Ultralight scopes that would compete directly, but they were discontinued.  The closest is probably VX-3i 2.5-8x36 which is somewhat similar optically, but has much less broad magnification range.  It does have a lot more eye relief.

I have spent some time with the Ultralight 2.5-10x32 on a 7.62x54R and had no issues with eye relief, but that really depends on the rifle weight and stock fit.
