Looking at a few different scopes for my 22-250. Will be mostly hunting coyotes and some prairie dogs. Would welcome any reccommendations.
Nikon Monarch 4-12x40 Burris Signature Select 4-16x44 Bushnell Elite 4200 4-16x40

Any reticle preferences? Do you want a holdover reticle? or a simple plex reticle?

That is one thing I like about the Burris is the ballistic reticle. I like the Bushnell because of the rain guard and I like the Nikon because the sample list has a great price on one @ $279.

Typically, I would suggest get something that fits your needs. If you like Burris' holdover reticle, get a Burris. If you are reticle-independent I think Elite 4200 is the way to go.
As for the Nikon on the sample list, I think it is a factory refurbished model. I was under an impression that factory refurbished scopes had a 90 day warranty. That is something you may want to confirm. If it is indeed only warranteed for 90 days, I would certainly stay away from it. ILya |

Thanks Koshkin...I was hoping you would reply to this topic as I read a lot of your posts and I value your opinion. Do you think the 4200 is better optically than the Burris Signature?

I think Elite 4200 and Signature Select are pretty close with Elite 4200 having a very slight edge.
Personally, I like holdover reticles, so I would pick the Burris. The difference in reticles far outweighs the difference in glass, IMO. When I was looking for a scope for my 22-250, I went with an Elite 4200, but in a 6-24x40 configuration, since it is available with a Mil-Dot reticle. ILya |

koshkin... what do you think about the Weaver Grand Slam 4.5-20X40 AO or 6-20X40 compared to the Elite 4200 6-24X40 you have. The WGS is about $100 less than the E4200.

Grand Slam is a good scope, but I think Elite 4200 is better. Is it worth a $100? That's a personal choice.
Out of all varminter scopes in this price range, I think: Bushnell Elite 4200 has the best glass. Sightron S2, I thhnk, has the largest adjustment range. Weaver Grand Slam is competitive with the others at a lower price point. Burris Signature Select has a trajectory compensating reticle and glass that pushes Elite 4200 Nikon Monarch has a new BDC reticle that I am curious about and glass on par with Sightron S2. I think Sightron and Weaver have the best W/E adjustments of the bunch. ILya |
