Have a Barrett M82A1 with an old Swarovski and would like to upgrade, or at least change, from the reticle "tree" to a more conventional crosshair-type scope that is range markers on the scope that is made for a .50 trajectory. Price not a huge issue, but I don't want to waste money. Most of my shooting is under 1000 yards, but sometimes shoot at 100 yards for fun.
Any help would be appreciated.

Swaro makes a great piece of glass, hard to "upgrade" from them.
Exactly what do you want and need? Variable? Without more details, I'd point you toward a Premier 3-12, it'll take the recoil and has enough elevation. They offer a mil dot reticle too. |

the optics on the scope, as far as the clarity of objects is great, but I have had it in storage for 5 years and no longer have the papers that came with it. I don't fully understand the "christmas tree" reticle on it to be honest. It starts at 5 at the top- I assume that this stands for 500 yards and much of my shooting is 100 to 200 yards, but I want to have something that I am glad I bought whan shooting 500-1000 yards on my friend's farm.
I have several shorter range scopes for AR15/M16, but want one with high power and nice optics for the Barrett. I don't get out much and want to see what of good quality makes it more interesting.
Just wanting to purchase something that I will not want to replace, placing a premium on optic quality and simplicity of use, if that is possible. I would like variable and side focus, if possible.
I use a Zeiss product at work and am impressed with their product. Is their Diavari worth the extra money (because money saved, money earned)?
And yes, there is much about scopes that I do not know. There it is.

Diavari is worth the extra $$, as is Premier, as is Hensoldt.
Since you want to "upgrade", I'd be looking at Hensoldt and Premier, anything else is not going to impress. |
