    Posted: June/13/2018 at 09:44
Hello. I just purchased a CZ 527 7.62x39 carbine.   This is my second such rifle. The first is outfitted with an Aimpoint H2.

For the new carbine, I'd like to try something different. What good lightweight scope options are available for such a gun?

The gun is light, handy and more accurate than you'd expect out to 200 yards. The scope should be light weight with good to excellent glass. As many know the CZ 527s have limited clearance for an optic above the bolt handle.

Anyone with suggestions?

 Few questions -

What's your budget?

What's the intended use? And max Distance you'll be using for?

Some "blind" suggestions -

https://samplelist.com/leupold-1-25-4x20-vx-r-30mm-riflescope-demo-b-1.html

mounted in these -

https://swfa.com/leupold-cz-527-30mm-ringmount.html - Medium height, they also have highs -

https://swfa.com/leupold-cz-527-30mm-ringmount-3.html

A call to SWFA might get you the correct height.  972-SCOPE-IT

or if you like more traditional -

been rebadged with slightly less quality glass now -

1" rings needed for these

Thx for the suggestions. That FX 2 Ultralight was on my maybe list. Anything outside of a Leupold I could consider?

Range is between 50 and 300 yards.
Budget is rough 1000 (though I'm not insistent on paying that).

I actually just scoped a CZ 527 .223 within the last two weeks, and yeah, the eyepiece is the sticking point for sure.

I ended up using a 30mm scope in Leupold ringmounts as they are just a bit lower than the CZ rings, I do have the CZ 1" rings and very nearly mounted a Swarovski Z3 3-10X42 which would probably be the number one 1" scope I would consider.

Any Leupold vx-3i scope will also fit this rifle easily, but the VX-5hd and VX-6hd scopes with their 43mm (I think?) diameter oculars make for a tight fit imo.

For this type of rifle, really a carbine, you might not want a 30mm tube, 50mm objective anyways, and it's very tough to beat the quality of a Swarovski Z3 in that configuration.

Swarovski Z3 can probably be found for close to $500 at this time, based on the pricing available in Canada.

Not many low power variables out there that have a reticle I'd want to use for what I will assume is a hunting rifle.   Bushnell makes a 1-4 with a 7.62x39 BDC but I don't think much of Bushnell and never a huge fan of "calibrated" reticles because they are most of the time off.  Then again for 300yds might be fine.

Trijicon has a 1-6 but at the upper level of your budget but its a nice setup.

Vortex Razor HD LH 1.5-8x32 is a very good fit for the 527.

The the little carbine being so light and handy, I'd be looking at an appropriately lightweight scope like the Razor I mentioned above or Swarovski Z3 3-9x36.

The gun is pretty much a nice toy. The carbine in 7.62x39 with an aimpoint is perfect for 100 and in. Doable from 100 to 200. I'm hoping to improve in that 150-300 yard range. I maybe wrong but I've never thouvh

I don't rule out hunting with the new gun but will primarily be clanging steel at various distance and generally working to improve my rifle shooting.

I see Swaro has a couple options in the 1 inch tube, 3-9x ish range.

Would you expect the Swaro to have materially better glass the the Leopold VX3 line? My hunch is the Z3 is the budget end of the Swaro line???

I'm a long time serious pistol shooter but am a bit of a novice with rifles. Please excuse what might be novice questions.

Swarovski Z3 is noticeably better than VX-3i (had a VX-3i in 3.5-10×40 until recently) except for eye relief, which in my opinion is a bit better with the Leupold. Z3 3-9×36 is $100 less than the 3.5-10×42, but you can't mount it any lower anyways, and it looks kinda wrong to me to have a scope sitting way up away from the barrel.
Just my taste.

The Vortex Razor hd lh is mentioned above, also a 1" scope of good quality, but more expensive than a Swarovski z3 unless found on sale (it's on sale around here) and not as good optically in my opinion....just based on looking in store.

I've owned 1 Vortex scope a Viper I think, and while they make good stuff, I feel like you pay full value for their good products, and their "value" scopes are not really worth the money.

I know that the largest scope retailer in my area says that everything below Razor level has an extremely high return rate, and he's a big time Vortex dealer.

I do have Vortex binoculars, with binos for me, fit is everything and many well regarded models cause me a lot of eye strain for some reason.

I have a 3-9x36 Swaro on my CZ527 American in .223. I also have the same scope on my .22lr Brno model 2. They do look right and perform aswell as I would want. (The .223 Rem and the .22lr tend to be for range use with occasional hunting which I think would fit your needs well. Will try and grab a photograph this weekend.

The 3-9x36 swaro is a sweet little scope.  I really like the one I have

I just placed an order for the Swarovski 3-9x36mm and Warne Medium Height rings.

Thanks to everyone for their advice and guidance.

Off hand I can't remember what rings but I think Warne medium's should be fine.

I'm sure you'll be happy with the end product.

It would be great if you posted some photos after you have your scope mounted, Warne rings weren't readily available when I was trying to find options and I'm curious about the end result.

I'll see what I'm dealing with when I get the scope and rings in. I don't believe Warne even makes low rings for the CZ though somebody else may. I'll pass back to the forum what I learn from this exercise.
