Purchased a Winchester 70 for my nephew. He plans on using the rifle for antelope hunting. Now he wants me to purchase a scope and while I am at it some rings and bases. Looking at Zeiss Conquest HD5 2-10x42, Swarovski Z3 3-10x42 or a Meopta Meostar R1 3-10x50. Trying to keep it at $1000.00 or less. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

JLud,
Do you hàve a Z3 with a 4A reticle? I was also looking at the Meopta Meostar R1 3-12x56 with a 4A reticle in the first focal plane.

I have the Z3 3-12x on my 257 Wby, which is my antelope/pronghorn rifle.  It is set up for the BRH reticle, which I like since shots can range for inside 100 to beyond 400 yards.

It is available with the 4A reticle

I would go with the Z3 for this.

A 2-12x42 VX6 is one of the finest hunting scopes out there, and would fit the bill very well if you don't mind a 30mm tube.  You could also take advantage of the CDS yardage dial if you want, and it works great.

Swarovski doesn't make a scope with a 3-12x power range, z6 2-12x is the closest to it.

With the Z3 you may have meant 3-10x42 or 4x12x50 , the BRH and 4a retciles are available for both.

To add to the options: Kahles KXi 3.5-10x50.

That is what I put on my 280.

Best 1" hunting scope I have ever tested.

How about a picture of the last antelope you took?  I've never shot one.

Neither have I.  What does that have to do with the Kahles scope though?

Nothing, really, I misread your comment.  You said a while back you were going to start doing some hunting… I was excited.
