I am new here some im just gonna break the ice and ask.

Well i am wondering what scope to put on a Remington 700 VTR .204. I would like to have capability of shooting accurrate at 3-400 yds at something to the relative size of a cantaloupe. I would like to have a scope that i can pan with, but dont have to worry about too much objective. Something i could shoot coyotes on the run or if i decide maybe stretch her ears a bit and shoot something at 450-475 if need be. Thanks ahead of time for looking at this new thread and i appreciate any scopes you would recommend. BTW i would like to spend about 6-800.

You know most scope requests I can post a dozen different optics that I think should be considered but from what you are saying there truely is only one answer:
SWFA SS 3-9x42 Tactical Riflescope SWFA SS 3-9x42 Tactical Riflescope
Stock # - SS39X42Love
  • Matte
  • First Focal Plane Mil-Dot
  • 30mm
  • OK for .50 cal
  • 0.1 MRAD
$599.95
Add SWFA SS 3-9x42 Tactical Riflescope to Cart
And Yes it really is that good.  I just ordered my second one.   Use Badger Ordnance rings and base if you can bear the price.

I would also like to ask will the mil dot in this scope be adequate for the cartridgeof the 204... in other words will the mil reticle be acurate for compensation on the windage, elevation, and distance for a 32gr cartridge?

It will work fine as it was intended to be used, regardless of load or caliber. It is not a ballistic compensating reticle per se, (but it can be used as one once you convert your bullet's actual trajectory to mils.)
You should probably get the Mil-Dot Master slide rule if you are unfamiliar with the theory and application of the milliradian system, and there are online tutorials as well that will teach you how they work.

 BTW, Welcome to OT!

It's more useful that you will have good target turrets. You will need to use a ballistics calculator like JBM to generate a drop table, then do some range testing to see what your real world results are.
