Hello

Who can recommend a spotting scope? There is a need to take a picture of an object 3 feet high at night under orange sodium light (street lighting), at a distance of approximately 200 yards.

I thought or the C90 Maksutov by Celestron, or the Barska Colorado 90mm, coupled with a cellphone camera. But perhaps a different scope should be used?

Thanks much!
Farfarello.

I have a C-90. It works fair to the eye but it is a F/13.3 lens. You will need a camera that can shoot at 1600 or 3200 ASA speeds to get much of a picture. You would do as well to spend the same $250 on a camera like the Nikon S 9900 that has a 30x lens. Not sure of the subject you are shooting, but picture quality will be low on both at 200 yards.

Welcome to the OT.

3_tens,

Thanks for your response. The object is a box and an experiment I am conducting. The aim is to get color change of a circular area on the face of that box of a rough diameter of 10 inches. The contrast should be high, between bright and dark. The experiment itself is a long story..What is a fair distance for such an optics? 100 yards?

Thanks,
Farfarello.
