At this point its mostly for punching paper  at the range (typically out to 100yds max) and plinking (golf balls, water bottles, etc) but would like something that is small game usable (squirels, etc).  I am not looking for a competition scope.
I currently have a Barska 3-9x32 "22 Plinker" on it, and while not bad, I'd like something of a little better quality.
Oh, and I currently have a Vortex 2-7 Crossfire that is being returned (so no need to throw that in as a suggestion).  I REALLY liked the glass but the crosshairs were a bit too thin for me and I couldn't always focus well on them.

Right now I'm considering the following scopes:

Weaver 2.5-7x28 Classic Rimfire Rifle Scope

Burris 2-7x35mm FullField II
Weaver 40/44 Riflescope 2-7x32
Redfield Revolution 2-7x33mm
Nikon ProStaff 2-7x32mm

They are all within about $20, all are a BIT more than I'd like to spend (I'd love to stay under $100), but I do want a variable power optic and really like the idea of the lower range of the 2-7.
Since friends do tend to go with me and shoot my toys as well, I would prefer something with a fast focus option.

Thanks in advance for any experience you can share regarding these models!

The Redfield I had was a great scope.  I'd say go with it or the Weaver.

I would go with the Weaver 2.5-7 classic rimfire. Mainly since a rimfire scope usually has a parallax of probably 50yds and the 40/44 is I believe a rifle scope with a parallax setting of probably 100yds.

I personally use a Leupold 3-9 EFR on one of my 22s. I love the fine duplex, but detest the coin slot W/E adjustments. I am thinking about sending it in to Leupold to have them changed though.

... also just ran across the Hawke 2-7x32 Sport HD which has a very attractive price.

I've read some positive feedback on the Hawkes, but not on the Sport line.

I ended up going with the Vortex Viper 2-7 SWFA had on clearance.   Paired it with a set of medium Talley rings that mount directly to the reciever with no rail required.
The setup looks great, the glass is leaps and bounds above the cheap Barska I had on it, and the reticle works way better for me than the one on the Vortex Crossfire I tried out.
Just mounted it tonight so no range report yet...
