Looking for a scope recommendation. Looking at 3-9x40 area. Not married to exactly that, could go 2.5-10 and 40-44mm objective.  I don't want dials or extra lights or 'stuff'. Just looking for quality glass and great zero hold.
This will live on custom built Mauser in .270 Winchester, Claro Walnut with flat black metal finish.  Budget is less than $1000.

I thinking somewhere in the Leupold VX-3 or VX-5, but I dont like the CDS turrets.  Also have looked on line at Swarovski Z3.

Suggestions appreiciated.

I like the Swarovski Z3 3-10x42.  Better than average for a good price.  You might take a look at the Meopta Optika5 2-10x42.  Nice scope, better than the price.

The Swarovski would be a great scope. Inventory on lots of stuff is just not available right now.  Leupold seems to be fully into the CDS system. Ballistic Reticles tend to confuse people because they only work right at the max magnification..... dial the power down means you shoot over the top of the animal with second focal plane scopes. just like the field of view gets wider reticle marks mean something different at every power. CDS actually dials in correction like a tactical scope and the power setting doesn't matter.

My favorite is a Trijicon 1-4 or 1-6 with a red fiber optic illuminated post.

Swaro has the classy look to match, but they're overpriced in terms of performance. I would add Steiner and Tract to the shopping list.
