Help!!! Outfitting Remington Model 700 Safari in .416 Rem Mag for
Kodiak Bear and potential use for moose. May also be used for
Africa trip for Cape Buffalo. In all likelyhood, max
distance for shot would be 50-75 yds. Fixed power vs.
variable?? Like the Burris with the dangerous game lighted
reticle, but would it handle the recoil? Anyone?

Burris Signature Safari 1.75-5x32 should work just fine. If you want a fixed mag scope, consider Leupold FX-II 2.5x20 (light and long eye relief). Both would survive the recoil just fine (or at leat as well as anything else out there).

I use a 2x7 Leo on my 416. A really old vari-x (doesn't even have a number). Recoil energy is not what destroys scopes it is recoil velocity. Handguns are far worse on scopes. If I were to pick a new scope, it would be the Leo 1.5 to 6. Vari-3. The Leo var 1X4 has been the standard on heavies for many years.
