I have a Rock River arms AR15 chambered in 223 wylde and looking for a scope. Have been looking at Nikko Sterling nighteater with LRX illuminated reticle in 4-14 power. will be using it for coyote , prairie dog and paper. Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Trying to keep price under $450. Thanks

I thankyou for the suggestions! Second question would be concerns on the fixed power for close in shots and running shots "FOV". Also what is your opinion of nikon coyote special and what are the problems with the nikko sterlings. Thanks again! |

The issue with nikko sterling is durability I suspect this might be a hard use gun and I dont think that will live long if it is. The fixed 6x will surprise you If you search the forum you will see that it is one of John Barness' favorite hunting scopes. I have one on a .375 H&H Encore which has significant recoil so I can tell you this scope is tough and you can actually get onto something up close fairly quick at 6x not so at 10x. If you are experienced at all when you throw the rifle to your shoulder it should be really close to pointed in the right direction. If not you need to shoot skeet for a while. The 6x I have has the heavy duplex and I really like it for low light and brush.
