I am looking at getting a new deer hunting rifle, and was thinking about getting a semi-auto, i know that there is not whole bunch of options out there, so i was thinking of a Browning BAR, in something like 7mm 08 or 270 WSM, any thoughts on if that is a good rifle to go with. Thanks

+1 , BAR's are excellent rifles. I've got a 7mm REm mag, I have had it for about 15 yrs.

++1 They have proven thems selves and are a good investment. If you want the above average try to find a Belgium made grade II. You will likely pay more but everyone I've ever seen shot incredibly well as far as grouping. I have a gradeII 270 that was very impressive until I messed up the muzzle due to ignorance. I recently rebarreled it and it actually shoots better than before. I don't have any experience with the new ones but my customers seem to be very happy with them. The only draw back with the older models is you won't have the option for 7mm08.
Good Luck!! let us know what you get.

+1 on the BAR's. I have a .308 with a 3-9 X 40 Trijicon Accupoint scope on it. It's a keeper.

I can't imagine not having a BAR! My go-to whitetail rig is a BAR Safari in 30-06 topped with a Kahles 3.5-10X50 CL. It is such a joy to shoot!
This is an old picture..... don't have the .243 anymore.... traded it for a 30-06 A-Bolt II in 30-06 (son didn't want semi anymore and I didn't have the coin to buy the A-Bolt). This was also before I got the Kahles. |

take em!

I have two... 30-06 w/BOSS and .243 w/o BOSS. Great rifles and I really enjoy shooting them. However, I've learned to hunt with the BOSS CR (eliminates the muzzle brake, but keeps the barrel tuning accuracy of the BOSS). The BOSS creates a high frequency "blast" that is truly painful. It could realistically cause deafness in a few shots. I may never shoot it again with the muzzle brake installed. The FNH FNAR took all the best aspects of the BAR and incorporated into that rifle...
