Hello, Need some guidance. I am considering the Sightron 4x32 for a Savage 99. The specs from Sightron's website show the overall length of the 1" tube portion (length between eyepiece and objective, to be 4.40". The distance between the 2 piece bases on my rifle is greater than 4.40". What do I do in order to mount a compact scope? I assume ring extensions? Any advice would be appreciated. |

Yes, you will need extension rings or a different ring/base system entirely. Either one will work fine. In fact, you may really only need one extension ring and will be able to use one of your existing rings of the same height and brand, if you'd happen to find one, in a box of junk at a gunshow or something. Your local gunsmith probably has a drawer full of used ones....

I have a Sightron SII 4x32 mounted on a Marlin lever action 30-30. It is the perfect size and weight but the eye relief is a little too much for me because of how close my eye is to the scope I need the scope to be further up the barrel. I had problems mounting it to the weaver brand weaver base because it only had two slots for the rings and as you said they were just a little too far apart. I ended up getting a Leupold Rifleman one piece aluminum base because it had a couple of extra slots closer together and it works now. It is a very clear and bright scope, I have an Elite 4200 1.5-6x36 and I must say it is optically equal in my opinion if not a tad sharper. I am interested in selling the Sightron if anyone is interested.
