Hello I just recieved a brochure from Sightron with a 50$ refund on a big sky scope.I was planning on getting a conquest. But with the coupon I can save a 100$ or more. What are the optics like on the big sky?And how would the 4.5x14x42 HHR work for deer hunting?
Also does the riticle on a Sightron magnify as magnification increases Is the Sightron close to the Zeiss to save the money

Depends what kind of deer and the distance of the average shot. At first glance it appears to be too much magnification. I hunt in the Southeast where the average shot is under 100 yds, sometimes less than 50 yds depending on the cover. You need 1.5X5, 2X7, or 3X9 to quickly acquire the target. Out West where the shots tend to be longer the 4.5X14 might be more appropriate, although I would probabbly use it on Proghorn only? Personally I would go with a 3X9. You can use it most anywhere.

I would buy the 3-12x42 Sightron Big Sky since your hunting deer.Nice low light scope which I find a tad better than a Zeiss Conquest.

I have the SII version of this scope.  The reticle is in the second plane and is nonmagnifying.  The scope works well out for long range(200-300-as far as I've gone).  I wouldn't use it for short range woods.  I do like it on my bull barrel 223 though.
