Steiner night hunters......... If you havent looked thru these at dark you should look into it.
I have 2 pair 8x30s($500) and just got myself some 12x56s($900) for christmas I looked at swaro and zeiss.
Anyone else used these if not try!

I have yet to be impressed by anything from Steiner.

What if the hokey pokey really is what it's all about?

I agree with lucznik on this one...never liked anything by them at all. What they charge for their high end XPs or whatever they are is crazy. I compared them side by side at dusk this past summer at an "Optics Field Trial" held by a local retailer and thought they looked dirty.

I have a pair of 8 X 30's and they're great for the money in daytime "200.00" bucks!... but I agree with the others.. when I went to upgrade intending to stick with Steiners, I was blown away with the clarity of the others... the steiners looked almost like there was a faint "smoke" in the air..a sort of "air pollution".... the prior poster used the word "dirty"....
Many things look good until you compare them to better. Almost any other and you will see better clearness.... notice I didn't say "clarity"... as in crispness of perfection in lettering etc, but rather clearness. The latter will also have to be challenged with your choice, but thats not my main gripe about steiner.. its the "clearness"....... almost like the difference in looking underwater in a pool thats carbon filtered and perfectly clear verses plain drinking water clear..... if you've ever had or seen large aquariums, you'll know exactly what I mean...... Bright sunlight will wash this out and make it less noticeable, but in diminished light you'll see. |

I have Steiner 15x80's and have used my friends 7x50 Commanders off and on for years. They certainly aren't the best but are far more than adequate. From my experience they are also quite sturdy. I have already taken a spill with the Senators that I thought for sure would do damage and there was none at all. I see them all the time in U.S. military photos from Iraq, BTW.
I would rather use my Zeiss 7x42 than the Commander for hunting. Then, the Zeiss can't touch the Steiner for long distance viewing. Apples to oranges, but none the less, I'm happy with Steiner.
