Do any of you older members have experience with the Stith mount that consisted of a front tube and rear receiver ring? On the Remington 141 and the Savage 99, the tube attached to a base that dovetailed into the rear open sight dovetail. The rear ring interchanged with a side-mounted base that was either drilled and tapped into the receiver or else fit the holes intended for a receiver sight.
Were such mounts reliable? I can't understand how the scope fit to the front tube could be so tight as to give a solid, stable scope mounting. Or if the scope did fit that tight, how would you ever remove it? Thanks for any and all input. You're probably going to have to be an older fossil to have seen these. I don't believe they were made much past the early 1960's. YOu see them occasionally on older deer rifles. |
