Well I've spent quite some time running through several sources of information for reading mil dots and have come across several answers for the same question. Some say 1 mil equals 3.4", some 3.6" and some 4" at 100 yds. Before trying to figure all that out, does anyone know how many mils each mil dot is equal to on the SS10X42. There seems to be different answers even among round and oval mil dot diameter/ lengths. Unless my eyes are deceiving me, the mil dots on the SS10X42 are round, right? Thanks.

1 mil is equal to 3.438 minutes of angle

1 moa is equal to 1.047 inches per 100 yards distance

3.438  X  1.047  =   3.59 inches at 100 yards.   We can probably fudge that 0.01"  don't you think?   :)

There were/are differences in measuement between oval (wire reticle) and round  (etched reticle) dots.

If I recall correctly, football dots are 0.25 mil end to end and dots are 0.22 mils top to bottom.

Both are 1 mil from center of the dot/oval to center of the next dot/oval.

Look at the swfa www site under riflescopes, look at leupold mil dot scopes, then look at the info regarding mils and dimensions.  It's pretty good stuff.

Laser range finders are better, and batteries are cheap.
