Oh darn now I need to buy one of these. Illumination in a Super Sniper - WOW works very well using the illuminated center with the first focal plane. Be sure and click on the reticle to see how it looks at 1x and 4x VERY COOL DEAL. Plus a choice of capped or exposed knobs
WOW

A SWFA 1-4X SS will be on my next build for sure!
Kudos to SWFA for bringing to market exactly what the market demands. That seems to be a quality that is missing in the optics industry, where the prevalent attitude is more reminiscent of Henry Ford's old saying, "Any customer can have a car painted any color that he wants, so long as it is black".

Now that there is funny. I assure you shooting with the stock iron sights on an AR is going to cover up a lot more target at 300 yards than an ACOG reticle will. I had a 3x ACOG for a while, I could make consistent hits at 400 and 500 yards on body sized targets on demand with 62 grain bullets. Plus it worked quite well with close up stuff. Not as good as an Aimpoint, but it worked pretty well. They are a good optic, and I dare bet if a person has been properly trained on one they could do a whole lot of good with one. Just saw the listing for the scope on SWFA website.
Capped version with the donut reticle definitely has my interest. ILya

Capped Knobs vs. Exposed knobs...
I wasn't expecting to have this choice. The decision to go with capped knobs would be based on wanting to eliminate the possibility of unintentionally turning a knob by bumping against an object, correct? Is there any other reason to go w/ capped? |

Yep, I think you are on the right track. If you plan on needing to adjust the knobs for different distances then uncapped would make for sense. But if you do not see yourself, making adjustments then get the capped.

Are the knobs themselves any different between the capped and uncapped models or is the capped version the same with just the addition of threaded caps?

The turrets are completely different between the capped and exposed.
Both are finger adjustable but the exposed are taller and wider.
The exposed are much easier to use if you plan on making adjustments in the field due to the larger and more visible indicators.
Both can be reset to zero but the capped version is much easier to do as you simply pull it up and it will free spin without clicking, then you just pop it back down.
We'll get detailed pictures us once they land.
We don't have a firm date due to U.S. Customs but they should be on U.S. soil later this month.

I haven't seen or played with the capped turrets, but the exposed turrets are great.
I understand the reluctance to have exposed turrets, I too have spun a few with a slung weapon, but they have enough resistance to discourage such unintentional adjustments. If you plan to dope on the turrets, exposed is the way to go.

I voted T w/ capped turrets on the poll. I like a 4A to begin with and I don't nave enough experience with the illuminated C-Dot in my Kahles 1.1-4x24 CSX. With more experience, that could change.
I like the enclosed because I don't dope much at all. I also like the simple zeroing aspect of it. I have also hunted withe the 3-9 SS and didn't have a problem with the dials moving when slung or dragging my rifle through heavy cover. Still the covers have to be more secure. Will this option come to the 3-9? I sure hope so! |

+1 on updated ship dates. I just registered on this forum to get information on this scope.
Chris, thank you for ignoring the haters. This looks like exactly what I want for the application I have in mind (use as a red dot at 1x/close range, and use as a mil-dot at 4x/longer ranges). The long range shots in some of the reviews are impressive.

Any estimate at this point would be a guess being its in the hands of US Customs to process them and get them to SWFA to ship out. |

I ordered my (T-post reticle & exposed knobs) 1-4x and received a back-order notice.
I see SWFA is listing all four versions of the scope on their website. Does this mean quantites of all four versions are at U.S. Customs? If not, is the version I ordered at the top or bottom of the list?
I see in another thread SWFA asked for votes on the specific models. What has become of the results?
Thanks
