What are the thoughts on this scope? I am wondering specifically what the difference in the glass of this scope vs the glass in the HD series is... and also if this would be my best choice in this price range? I want it to be mil/mil and don't need higher magnification... thanks for help and advise!

The biggest difference between the 3-9, and the HD scopes is having 10 mils per turn on the knobs. From what I understand(I don't own one), the glass in the 3-9 compares well against scopes costing much more. But as an aside, ALL the SS scopes compare well to scopes costing much more...
If it is tourist season, why can't we shoot them?

I have found that the image quality through the 3-9 SS is vey good for the cost. I have compared this scope to various Bushnell Elite and Nikon Monarch scopes on the bottom side. I have also compared it to several Kahles, on the high side, scopes I have. The contrast and resolution sits squarely between the lesser scopes and the alpha scopes. I have also found that low light performance is very good when the power is cranked up enough to see the reticle in the lowest of lighting. For my hunting uses, I can't think of a tactical scope I would rather have. This is all anecdotal, of course.
I can't comment on the HD question. But the folks around here seem to think it is similar glass.
