Swift makes a bino that is 16-40x80. Does anyone know anything about these. What do you think about this instead of a spotter?

I thinks its a wonderful concept only hindered by your ability to transport it. I've used something similar once on a hunt where they had one set up at camp. During down time you were able to take a look around.....you would be surprised at how many animals were spotted right from camp.

Personally I would avoid variable power binocular regardless of make. (The one exception being the Leica Duovid, which really is not a variable in the strictest sense.) No one has yet made a variable binocular that is sufficiently rugged enough to maintain collimation under normal field conditions.

What if the hokey pokey really is what it's all about?
