During my recent eye exam, I was diagnosed with macular degeneration in my right eye - it's also my shooting eye. I'm right handed and left eye dominant but refused to switch to shooting with my left eye.

Now when looking thru my new RZ-800 reticle, I get the same zig-zag lines as does the Amsler test sheet. I noticed the same thing when looking thru my crossbow scope the other day and it has the same zig-zag lines due to the hash marks/chevrons in the vertical crosshair.  I don't recall seeing this issue during the summer when I was sighting it in so I assume this leaking blood vessel in my eye is recent.

I'm taking steroid drops now to fix it and hope to hell I don't have to have the injections in my eyeball! But has anyone switched their shooting eye because of macular degeneration? At least I'm not as bad off as The Pigman yet!

Yes . . . the options 50 years ago for LH bows, LH bolt actions, and LH safeties on shotguns weren't that plentiful. I've always been able to overcome shooting right handed with a dominant left eye, even shooting a lot with both eyes open - it's the damn "blur" I have now in the right eye from macular degeneration.

I've noticed that it does get a tad clearer by turning my head slightly to look thru the scope at a slight angle rather than flush on. Maybe I'll switch over to just using buckshot!

I am left eye dominant with macular in the left eye Now trying to switch back to shooting right handed. So far mine is the dry Macular. Had it for last 3 years. Should have heard me chewing Chris ll out for selling me a crooked scope. Cool  Sorry to hear yours has gone into the wet stage. I have been taking the Ocuvite eye vitamins and it has all but stopped the progression so far. One of my agents has the wet, and has been on the shark oil shots every 4 weeks for over 2 years. Not fun. Good luck.

Well I've decided to eat a little crow. I went and bought a Gamo TAC Whisper air rifle today so I could practice all summer shooting left handed. It came with a 4x32 scope - I opened it up, looked thru it, and then put it back in the box. I had a Redfield 2-7 Illuminator sitting in the gun cabinet so I went and mounted that.

1st shot at 15 yards was 2" left and 7 1/2" low. Adjusted the MOA based on 15 yards and the 2nd shot almost hit the V that I was aiming at on the eye chart. Damn - that reticle is clear as heck looking thru my left eye!  Wink

Good to go. This should add some years to your shooting. I have a matched pair of Remington 700 varmint rifles. One is 223 and the other 22-250 HS Precision stocks and Talley trigger.
