Sam Smith’s are good beers and usually relatively inexpensive pubs in London so I like them!

Scrummy

Couple of guys stopped by my office and wanted to know when I was retiring; said they were going to get me a single barrel. I asked them what gauge or caliber. They asked, "Are you really from Kentucky, we're talking about bourbon here". "Well", I said, "I didn't know if you were talking a shotgun, rifle, or Gatling gun; you know, I am from Kentucky".

Speaking of Bourbon, I tried some of RC's stated favorite hooch yesterday for the first time -- Michter's. RC never clarified which of the many Michter's concoctions he was referring to, but I tried the "Small Batch US1 Kentucky Straight." I thought it was very good, among the better Bourbons I've had.

So among Bourbons I've tried recently enough to recall the experience, my ranking is thus, in order from most to least favorite:

1. Eagle Rare 10 year old
2. Buffalo Trace
3. Basil Hayden's
4. Breckinridge (CO bourbon)
5. Michter's Small Batch US1
6. Booker's
7. Angel's Envy
8. Four Roses Small Batch
9. Bulleit (Standard Frontier)
10. Rebecca Creek (TX whiskey...don't know if it is technically classified as a "bourbon")
11. Templeton Rye 4 year old (don't know if technically classified as a "bourbon")
12. Maker's Mark
13. Woodford Reserve

So many people praise Woodford Reserve, but it just doesn't work well with my taste buds. Maybe I was just having bad tasting days when I've had it, but it just seems too one-dimensional and it has a bitter note to me that I just don't care for...though it does make a good Old Fashioned.

Red Beast is a superior product.
I am a big fan of Woodford Reserve... it captures all the finer points of a true Kentucky Bourbon.  I don't like Jack Daniels and I don't like Maker's Mark...mostly...

It was actually discovered in 2007, finally removed from the ice in 2010 and 3 bottles sent to Scotland to try to "recreate" it in 2011.  The result was placed on a small market in 2012.

That just goes to show everyone's different taste. I think Woodford is over priced, and not that great. I like Makers, and it's my go to Bourbon that I compare all other Bourbons to. Jack Daniels is Tennessee Whisky and not bourbon, so it has a different taste; I don't care for it, but if that's all there was........
Blantons was the big rage around here back in the late 90s. I found it to be on the harsh side and didn't really care for it, especially at the inflated price. Now you never hear anything about Blantons.
