I was directed to this site and was told there were many knowledgeable people here who could help with any and all questions. I just very recently acquired my first scope, which I will be using on my 18" SEI M1A. It has SEI's 7" extended mount, and I will be using Warne Maxima QD rings. The scope will be a 1.5x5, illuminated (standard duplex), Leupold scope, which I got at what I consider to be a good price through SWFA (However, in reading a recent topic about Leupolds it seems that this may not have been the best choice; however, I am sure the scope will meet my needs). At any rate, I want to install the scope correctly the first time and was hoping to be given some pointers or directed to some instructions. Any help will be appreciated.
Oh, I will also be installing a Desert Warrior cheekrest and will shortening the length of pull of the stock to 11.75", which is basically cutting off everything after the rear sling swivel. I've tried a stock with this mod and made the rifle much handier.
Once again, thanks in advance for any assistance.

Welcome to OT.
Really not much to go wrong on the scope and mount install.
Follow the SEI directions, be careful not to overtorque the side bolt. Use as low a ring combo as possible and you'll be fine.

The SEI mount is already on the rifle, so there is no issue there. I was just wondering if there was anything specific I needed to know in order to do a correct scope install in my first attempt. For instance, in another well respected forum, it was advised to put "a smear of Permatex 'Right Stuff' gasket compound inside the rings when mounting the scope will ensure stability. No moisture between scope and rings to freeze or rust, and better long term accuracy." |

Well welcome to the internet where knowledge and common sense have no place at all.
Sounds like you found that on the other forum.
Mount on rifle.
Ring bases on scope mount base.
tighten lowers ring base mount screw/bolt accordingly.
scope in lower ring saddles.
ring caps on ring lowers.
adjust eye relief and reticle level.
tighten ring caps.
shoot often, learn much.
No witchcraft, splooge, magic potions required. It really is as simple and uncomplicated as it looks.
