I can only say that in comparing the 2.5-10x32 to what else was available at the time I got it (last December), it does not seem overrated or overpriced. The most comparable scopes (this was well before the SS 3-9 came out) were the USO SN3 @ $1730 or the IOR 2-12 tactical that sells for basically the same price as the NF ($1275 vs. $1295). I could barely justify that price let alone the cost of the USO. I ruled out the IOR because it is a 35mm tube and I wanted a 30mm mount and because NF has a better reputation for reliability and repeatability. Frankly, I've never understood the complaints over their glass. It is more than good enough. Give me laser-precision repeatability any day over anything else. I don't need this scope because someone might be shooting back at me. I already had one hunt ruined because of a scope failure and I just want to know that if I do my job of dialing in the right dope and firing the rifle properly, I will hit what I aim at. The NF makes my rifle a joy to shoot and will probably last for many years. It has also removed some of the variability in my shooting and load development...can't blame the scope anymore.

When I read articles about testing your scope to see if it is really tracking 1/4 MOA with each click I just think, "Why not buy a NF or comparable scope and not have to worry about it?"
So here's a nickel on the grass to you - your spirit, enthusiasm, sacrifice and courage - but most of all your friendship. Yours is a dying breed. When you are gone, the world will be a lesser place.

alot of longrange shooters here pick them. for there recticals and massive accurate adjustments.

well the glass might not be as good as say swaro,s&band zeiss they are still top class. i guess it boils down to what type of shooting you do

That is a Nightforce that took a round in combat, and the scope still functioned (though, obviously, not at 100%.)

As I said long ago, you gotta pay allot more to get more scope.  Their glass is entirely usable, and they are very, very tough.

I'm wondering if the new big SS 5-20 when it finally comes out  will give NF competition? I find it hard to beleive my SS10X HD can't hold up to anything thrown at it including a combat round. Just my 2cents at 60% of the NF cost.
