It balances nicely and handles well.  Seems like a good shooter too. I am right handed, so the bullpup configuration works well for me.

LOVE THE RECON SCOUT MAINLY BECAUSE THE OE LENGTH. THE BULLPUP DESIGN WAS WHAT MADE IT POSSIBLE (HAVING A 338 OE OF 31" INSTEAD OF THE COMPETITION'S 37) DONT REALLY KNOW MUCH ABOUT HOW IT SHOOTS OR HANDLES IN THE FIELD ,BUT WOULD LOVE TO GET A CHANCE AT PUTTING IT THROUGH IT'S PACES.

if you need that much down range remaining energy why not just go to a 50? Usually the fun part is more important, which invariably involves the cost per round. As far as ballistic traj. go the 300 wm gives up very little to the 338 and is cheaper to shoot and easier to reload. the 300 wsm will get you 95% the performance of the 300 with 10 grs. less powder. In any case a the rest of the package has more to do with the over all results than the caliber. Unless you really need it the tactical stuff is nice, but why don't you look at Savages new F rifle in 6.5x284?? For 1k this thing will shoot with $4k guns., and leave a lot of room over for other toys.

I had heard that, but have no useful experience with that model.  Thank you for the confirmatory information.

Robar makes a REALLY nice .338 Lapua.  If you are serious about getting one, you should check them out...

Having trouble deciding on several factors.  I have the crazy idea of finding a nice Military Mauser 98 to build on, but still am considering a 700 action.  As for calibers, I am open to suggestions.  I have thought about 6.5s, 300 WM, 308, 338 LM.  Not really sure what to do.  Would like to build a shooter for longer range.  I have been shooting long range with my Ruger 300 WM and some with my 270, but would like on that is more accurate.

Would love a GAP, but have been throwing around the idea of building my own rifle.

I'd take a GAP gun over the Barrett any day and for half the price of the Barrett!
