Hey Guys,

This is a pic of what some of the Brass looks like that I want to reload. I just polished it, the 3 is for what I believe is about the 3rd time to be reloaded..So again my question is on the slight cuts at the top of the brass. Im not sure but this is probably due to crimping. The concern is , Is it safe to reload?

Thanks!

Julio..............

  Hey Julio,
There shouldn't be a problem. Make sure your RESIZED oal casing length doesn't exceed 63.5mm(2.5"). Trim length is 63.3mm(2.49"). Chamfer the mouth inside and out.

Earl,
The brass all looks pretty good length wise. I did not think the cuts or whatever you would call them would really matter. I thought it might be a good idea to run by someone though. Im using 150gr TTSX with IMR 4834. Im starting at the bottom and working my way up in .5gr increases looking for that sweet spot..I do not care if Im on the lower end velocity wise or not, I just want it to be as accurate as I can get it...The Old 7mm Mag. Bar rifle will be a back-up for my upcoming Elk hunt.  My primary rifle will be a 7mm-08 shooting 140gr. TTSX ..Im not all that excited about it though, I should be since Ive not been able to go for years....Finding a place to go where the walking is somewhat easy has been a problem in the Elky dept. this year. Hopefully I can shoot one out the door. I would not say that online but the State will let me since Ive got the disability permit in my pocket, and they will let me shoot a Cow too during Spike season, otherwise I would not bother..You can bet that as soon as I knock a Cow down , people will be on there cell phones to Mr. Game Warden...This could be kinda comical Earl....Big Grin

Brass looks OK those look like crimp marks try not to crimp quite so hard - just a tad.  What you need to watch out for are splits in the neck right about where it starts to bend to the shoulder.

Yea, I think that is a crimp, it should be OK.

I would run a few test batches, loaded up nowhere near as hot as SAAMI says they can go, watch for problems.

You should be fine, that is very uniform and looks to be a crimp mark, all should be well.

When you mentioned it in the PM, it sounded more severe; that should be OK, but I'd load a few to make sure - a few that ain't as hot as you can load them.

I've reloaded Winchester and Remington with that kind of crimp over and over. With neck sizing, it doesn't go away, but still get excellent accuracy.

Wow this thread is old. Yep Boots its a Browning Bar 7mm mag. and Im going to go back to reloading for it as soon as I get through the spring engraving rush..In fact I may be contacting you for help on several calibers Im reloading. 3 of the rifles have been in the Gunsmithes since December and I just now got em back, that guy is swamped...The rifles were Muzzlebraked and had trigger jobs, etc.

i was pretty sure that it was a bar, otherwise i dont find much use for crimping in bolt actions, unless your looking at some of the dgr calibers.
