Which one would you guys choose from these two?  They both get good reviews although Nikon has been around a long time and Zen Ray I not too sure about but heard good things.  Anyway I wanted to get your opinions on which one you would go with.  I would be using them for all around binos.

I have owned both.  For my money, the ZRS HD is better.  It is shorter and a bit more compact than the Monarch, but a few ounces heavier.  It feels better built to me as well.  Plus it has a nicer, wider field of view.

Thanks for the feedback.  Do you own a pair of Zen Ray?  I'm not sure about them because I can't hold them and see them in person.

You can order and send it back if not pleased.  Either from SWFA or Zen Ray.  It might cost a little time and a shipping label, but you do have options to look at it.  If you have seen the Nikon, ask me a more specific comparison question and I'll try my best to answer it. Smile

Is there another model you can recommend besides the Zen Ray which you think is better than the Nikon?
How are the Bushnell's 8 X 42?

I'm not a big Nikon Monarch fan, in spite of using one quite a bit.  I really prefer most anything even lesser price stuff to the Monarch.  I just posted a review of one binocular I would prefer to the Monarch for $200-ish.  I guess to be fair the review is for an 8x32, but I have that glass in 8x42 as well and I like it a lot better than the Monarch, from what I have seen so far.

Now when you throw 8x42 Bushnell's into the equation, you have to say which ones you are talking about.  I've said numerous times that I think Bushnell is its own worst enemy simply because they defile their own name with all the cheap crap they sell.  Now they do make some pretty decent stuff, for example the Legend Ultra HD is likely the best overall deal from Bushnell.  You can find them in sporting goods stores for around $250, or less (Google is your friend) and Bushnell is still (I think) running a $50 rebate.

I read your review on the 8 X 32 but I'm curious to find out how the 8 X 42's will compare to the Zen Ray's.

My Dad just got a pair of Nikon Monarch 3. I haven't had a chance to compare them to my Zen Ray ZRS HD yet. We both have 10x42. However, I have compared my ZRS HD to other binos including Vortex Diamondback, Cabelas Outfitter (Steiner), and Minox BV, and Kruger Caldera. So far, I have preferred the view of my ZRS HD to all. The Caldera did show slightly less CA, but it did not fit my face well because of the wide eye pieces. I would suspect that the ZRS HD will give you a great view, and can't be beat for the money. I'm looking forward to comparing them to the Monarch 3. If nothing else, the ZRS HD will at least have a wider field of view, and I would think be a little brighter as well.
