Yep it is a CTR Commercial version.  I bought the foldable components from riflestocks.com but I am waiting on a wrench to unscrew the tube.

Got my Sig 556 Thursday and got the ACOG dialed in this weekend at the range.

Cliff,

You should be happy with the ACOG. I have mine in a LaRue Tactical QD mount that is far better than the ARMS mount. LaRue's mount allows one to adjust how snug
the mount is when you close the locking levers - since not all rails are exactly the same dimesions. There are a lot of posts about ARMS mounts not closing all the way
on some rails.

I tried the Trijicon mount for the ACOG as well and found the LaRue mount is slightly lower, as the biggest problem with an ACOG is getting it low enough for one to
maintain a proper check weld.

Enjoy!

1.1-4x26mm w/CQB reticle, not to mention I am standing in line for a .308 ELCAN SpecterDR Gen II. My plan is to put the IOR on my 556 in a LaRue Tactical SPR
mount. While I like the compact size and light weight of the ACOG, it is not as flexible as a 1x4x ELCAN or 1.1-4x IOR - meaning the ACOG is good for distance
work, but isn't very useful up close.

The intermediate range of scopes is very large, seems like everyone has one in their line-up. All will work, and be a lot lighter than an ELCAN. But there is something
really cool about the ELCAN and there really isn't any need for anything between 1x and 4x or 5x.

Getting hands on experience with different setups and finding something that works for you, as Silver suggests is very good advice. Spending $1600+ on an optic
and then realizing it doesn't work for you is pretty frustrating!

Best of luck.

I am in line just like you.  I ordered mine from www.budsgunshop.com for 1199.  They said they could get it in 2-3 months.  They required I send them a check so I am out the money and there is no turning back.

Only thing I don't like is all the people in line for one of them.  Some have been waiting for like 6 months.  I went to a Gun Show this morning and guys were selling them for 2,000 .  It was really cool to hold one though.  As soon a s I picked it up I knew it was the gun for me.  I found a really good deal on ammo so it was worth the trip.

Back to the scope, after a bunch of research and feedback from the guys on this board I settled on a scope.  I wanted one with good range 4x.  I needed something with night illumination without the hassle of batteries.  I needed something in case of close range.

I went with the TA31DOC after I found it on ebay (http://stores.ebay.com/ASO-Tactical) for 1275.

I got the scope the other day and I am really impressed with it.

I am really looking forward to the gun.  I am already researching stocks, magazines etc

I have not seen a new ACOG scope in a while. A friend has one from years back and I thought it sucked. You could see the tritium illumination, but the glass was so poor you could not see the target.  I understand that improvements have been made, but to what degree I can not imform you.

Here's uncle Silvers big hint on a lot of this stuff; does it have a N-S-N?

What is N-S-N?  hehe

I bought the rifle and will continue to research the scope.  There is a gun show coming up and I will hopefully get to check some of them out there.

Thanks a bunch for the advice

ACOGs optics are far from the best on the market; but are more than adequate for your uses.  I wouldn't want to engage a target at 1,000 yards with one, especially if that target were simultaneously engaging me.

It is a great piece of gear for an AR.  It's quick on target, self-illuminating (for about 12 years, then needs a recahrge), and has a BDC for military isue 5.56 NATO ball.

Night vision might be one way to go, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

Like they said, go to a class, play with all the stuff you can, then decide.

ACOG has my vote, but my vote mattters little when life and/or pride hangs in the balance.

To a hammer, everything is a nail
