Thanks--do you have other recommendations based on your experience? What was it you were using in mexico with the big muleys?

I have been using the Recon Outdoors Extreme 3.0 for 2 months now, and I have to say, I've been extremely pleased with this camera! It seems to have fairly fast trigger speed, it takes some of the best night time infrared shots I've seen, and daytime color pics are quite nice as well. It will stamp temperature, moon phase, time, date, and your name on the pics. The menu / function setup is as simple and straightforward as I've seen on any other camera. It is so easy to setup and use, in fact, I would be willing to bet you could do it without even needing to read the manual. As a bonus, battery life is better than the other brands I've tried, better than my Cuddeback. The best part is that the case is very well sealed. This is one of my main gripes with Cuddeback -- mine CB allowed water to leak inside the case, and when I tried to get it repaired under warranty, they claimed the corrosion inside was due to battery leakage, not water, so I had to pay for repairs, even though it was still under warranty. The Recon Extreme cameras have a case that is very much like a Pelican hard case -- o-ring sealed around the edge, thick, durable housing, and strong locking hasps. The electronics are completely sealed inside the lid of the case, so it would be impossible for leaky batteries to corrode the board. It includes a laser for initial aiming of the camera as well. All in all, it seems like a quality piece of gear, and unlike my Cuddeback and the Moultrie I40 I had, it hasn't given me any trouble whatsoever... so far. I'm sure there are several other very good trail cameras available that are as good as this one, but I can highly recommend the Recon Extreme cameras!

Thanks, Ted--you earlier mentioned that you were looking at the Leaf River--did you pick the Recon over the Leaf River?

Yes, mainly because of all the reviews talking about how good the nighttime IR pics are with the Recon. I have to agree, the Recon produces some of the best IR pics I've seen, with much better contrast and resolution than the IR pics from my Cuddeback. The other reason is I liked how bulletproof the housing seemed on the Recon -- basically just like a Pelican case! In addition, the Recon just seemed more straightforward and easy to setup and use than the Leaf River cameras. My impression is that the trigger speed on the Recon isn't as fast as the Cuddeback, but it seems reasonably fast to catch moving critters.

I'll try to remember to do that, Sam. It's at my hunting lease, and I've only viewed them with my portable viewer and TV screen at my camp. I haven't downloaded any pics from it to my computer yet. Keep reminding me so I don't forget. I'm pretty busy during this time of the year, so I can be forgetful.
My impression of the daytime color pics was that the Cuddeback quality was a little better than the Recon (a good comparison since the ones I have are both 3 MP), but the Recon's nighttime IR quality was WAY better than Cuddeback. I'll try to give you a representative sampling of both when I post the pics.

Hey Guys!
How do I reset the password on a Trail Cam? Followed all instructions and keep getting an error. The original password (can't remember it) needs changed, but it gives me an error. It's in lock mode...

I can only tell you how to do that on a Cuddeback No Flash. My other trail cam doesn't have a lock password, and the method for resetting it undoubtedly varies from one brand and model to another. If you'll let us know which trail cam you have, maybe someone here owns that model and can help you.
Have you tried calling the manufacturer of the camera for help?

Sorry for the delay, Sam. My home computer died a few weeks ago, and it had all my trail cam pics on the hard drive. I've been visiting this forum lately from my work computer, which doesn't have the pics on it. I had erased the cards containing the pics once I downloaded them to my computer. We just bought a new home computer yesterday, and I will try to figure out a way to upload the pics off the old computer's hard drive. My wife says she successfully downloaded all my pics to a portable hard drive before the computer crashed, but I don't know yet if her download included the file containing my trail cam pics. Stay tuned...

I betcha it has a little reset button on it somewhere, ya know one of those tiny buttons you have to get a needle to push. If it does that should restore it to the way it was when it was new.

Hey Ted,
Been there done that twice last year with the hardware crash and pictures.
Thanks for letting me know. My wife and kids bought a I40 no flash for my Christmas present--a total suprise! I'll try to post some after season pictures from the camera.
As a side note, I climbed into one of my stands the last week of December and was suprised by 3 flying squirrels. Never seen one here in SC but they were awesome running around the blind. I'll try to post a picture of the squirrels too!
