I bought a Vortex STX tripod and 128 Manfrotto fluid head to use with my spotting scope. I could check out the tripod locally and it looks like it will be fine. This is the most usable setup I've ever had my spotter on! Thanks to the advise about the fluid head etc. from all of you, I will really like this setup much better than anything I've ever used!!!!!!!!!

Good choice. Nothing screws up a good spotter faster than a lousy tripod and a poor head.
