I have mounted a 4x12x50 VX-II Leupold scope on my Triumph Bone Collector ML using Warne PA mounts with the high rings. I'm trying to sight in the gun with BH209 powder and have run out of adjustments. I'm shooting about 3-4 inches high and about 3 inches to the right at 50 yds. I've tried several different bullets, such as 290 Barnes, 260 Harvester, and 250 T/C bullets. Cant' get the impact any lower. I would be Ok with 2 inches high at 50 yds, just have no more adjustment. Suggestions with be much appreciated. I know I could switch to mounts with windage adjustments or maybe use a shim for height, but I really like the ruggedness of the Warne system. First set I'v ever owned. Thanks

Yes, I have no more side adjustments as well as no more vertical. I'm only shooting 100 gr of BH209. With this powder, you don't have to swab between shots, in fact it is not recommended by the company, you get better accuracy. I can shoot 20-30 times without swabbing in my Knight Disc Elite, and still shoot great groups. The only thing is that you have to ream out the flash channel. You have to use hot 209 primers to set off the BH209.

The root of your problem is probably that your base is not installed in proper alignment with the bore on either axis. If you ran out of adjustment at 50 yards, with 3 or 4 inches left to go, it's pretty severe. You're not going to correct this problem by fooling around with different loads, either. Even if you got close, you'd still be forced to use the extreme edges of your scope's optical 'envelope'. Really not an optimum situation.

I just helped a friend sight in a .50 Bone Collector with a 3-9 Nikon Omega on it this evening.
I can't see where the Leupold would run out of adjustment. I would look at the mounts first. The gun we had out had the factory TC aluminum mounts that are similar in concept to the Talley Light Weight mounts. They were very well made. The scope adjustments were fairly well centered on the screws. Also, reasonable powder weights(100-130 grs.) won't do that at 50 yards either. I shoot .40, .50 and .54 cal muzzle loaders and at those ranges, the variance in load has not mattered much. Edited by tahqua - August/06/2009 at 20:39 |
