Are these scopes any good? I am looking at the 5-25x50 FFP

What would you equate these to as far as clarity reliability tracking etc?

Thank you!

For the money invested it is a very good buy. Optically they are also very good at the respective price point. I have a Gen 1 and the Gen 2, from what I can tell, may be a tad bit better. The turrets are a nice upgrade from the Gen 1 as well. They track well and are reliable and durable. Then there is the best in industry warranty. You honestly can't go wrong here.

I spent a fair amount of time looking at Gen 2 3-15x44 and 5-25x50 and like them a lot.  I think they are a big step up over the Gen 1.

Both of the ones I tested tracked well.

As far as equating them to something, what are you familiar with?

i want to buy a scope in the 3-15 range for a 338 win mag carry gun, hunting from ranges point blank to 1k. i narrowed the search down to the viper and the ss but have pretty much decided on the pst because the ss to my knowledge isn't illuminated. it seems to me a ffp reticle needs to be illuminated for a hunting gun. does anyone know if and/or when an illuminated reticle would be on the 3-15 ss?

https://www.swfa.com/swfa-ss-hd-5-20x50-tactical-30mm-riflescope.html

We have seen several models of 3-15 come past but not an illuminated one.

the ss 5-20 is a great scope but i wanted a little less magnification on the low end, a little lighter/smaller and a little less mula (<1k) to get one. maybe a different thread discussing how far into evening one can effectively shoot a ffp without illumination

In the FFP world, there aren't all that many options in a similar price range, so comparisons can be tricky.

The 3-15x44 I had was very good and competed well with almost anything under $1600 or so.  It was dangerously close to Mark 5HD 3.6-18x44 I had at the same time, although a little bigger.

For the 5-25x50, the closest was probably SWFA SS HD 5-20x50, although SWFA was a touch better optically.

PST Gen 2 was definitely better optically than similarly configured Burris XTR II.  Athlon Ares ETR seems a touch better than PST Gen 2 and Ares BTR is a touch worse.

I looked through an Ares ETR.... It was definitely impressive given the price.
