What is everyone's opinion of their Vortex Viper 2-7x32?

I have a new rifle (.243 Remington 700 CDL) on order and I'm thinking of taking a fairly decent 3-10x44 scope off of my Mini-14 and putting it on the new gun, at least until I can decide what it really needs. The Viper would then go on the Mini-14 and probably stay there.

I don't have any low light requirements and the Mini-14 isn't the greatest past 250 yards anyway, so is the Viper a good fit for it and how do you like yours?

Thanks

Well, I haven't had mine long at all, but I am going to get another for my Mini. The C3 reticle seems a perfect fit to me and the current pricing is the best you will find I think. The most bang for the buck that I have seen for anything in quite some time.

Just my 2 pennies worth.

Are you hunting with the mini-14 or just target practicing? And it also depends on the game you are hunting --if you are indeed hunting with it. Personally, I want a little more magnification if you're hunting 250 yards. If you're less than that I think you'd be ok. I don't have the 2-7 Viper but I do have the 4-12x40 and I can say the glass is superb!!! It loses very little to my Zeiss Conquest that I can tell so far. And like CSAcpt said---the price is amazing on those 2-7s!----Bboy623
I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6!

Magnification is indeed a personal thing, I am discovering. Until recently, I never shot with a scope, then cataracts reared their heads.  So I had new lenses implanted and for normal vision use they are superb! However, when it comes to sighting a rifle they are problematic. So I am going to scopes. For me just a bit of magnification is all I need. Hard to explain, just seems to clear things up for me. The 2-7 would probably take me out past 500 yds, but that is just me.

Suffice it to say that if you have the 2-7, try it, then go from there. For me it is perfect but maybe not for your eyes.

Regardless, it really is excellent glass for the bargain-basement price! That is for sure and for certain!

I didn't word that very well; I meant to imply 250 yards is the very outer limit a Mini-14 is effective, and maybe not that far. Mine with me shooting it, anyway. I don't use it for hunting and so far 200 yards has been my limit with decent results, with most of my shooting with it being 100-200 yards.

So I guess I'm asking if the Vortex Viper at 7x gets you good results at 100-200 yards and are you happy with it, or do you always wish you had more magnification and better glass?

Bboy623, I've considered the 4-12x40 Viper (also a pretty good price now I think), but heard there wasn't enough elevation and windage internal adjustment range to make some users happy. True?

I'm very happy with my 2-7 Viper. I've done a little target shooting with it out to 300 yards with a Saiga 308 and have no problem resolving small targets at that distance.

I used  a target with a thin crosshair pattern at 100 yards and with the Viper it was crystal clear compared to my lower end Simmons, which would get kind of blurry when I superimposed the reticle on the lines on the target.

I hope my experiences are as good as others.  I ordered two.  One each with The BDC and C3 in them.  I needed a good scope for a low use rifle I have (9.3X57) and a starter scope for my daughters first centerfire rifle.  I wanted a IOR fixed 6 power for her rifle but the price diference was just too great to ignore.  Hopefully they will for fine, I will just leave the power on hers' at 4 or 6 while she learns.

Rico, we'll need special tactical equipment

I got one with the C3 on my 9.3x62.  LUV it!!!!!!!!!!

I'll tell y'all this.  I've made many offers to buy the 2-7x32 Vipers off of anyone who didn't like them.  So far no takers.

Well it should work fine on my 9.3 then!  Although I put the BDC on it, I figure that the C3 will be easier for my daughter to learn on since getting the target centered should be eaiser.  Opinions?

I agree with everyone else here...with the quality you get, for the price you pay...I dont think your gonna beat the 2-7 viper!

I have the 2-7x32 Viper with the C3 reticle on my Savage 10ML.  I love it and am thinking about buying another before it's too late.  I can't speak for putting it on a Mini-14, but in my opinion it's the perfect scope for a muzzleloader.
