Simple question. Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 can be had for $329 and the Diamondback 4-12x40 for $299.
Mid to longer range open wood lots and fields  hunting with the intent to do some 5-600 yrd shots. to be mounted on a tikka 300 win.  I like the higher mag, but am reading a few reviews that say the Vipers eye relief at 12 power or above is terrible.  I think this particular Viper is on the discontinued chopping block.  Anyhow there ya have it. Thanks in advance.

$30 more the Viper is the superior scope. Just don't use if above 10x and you will be fine.
When in doubt, C4

At $30 more this isn't even a legitimate question. The only thing is that you should try to get into a lower power for the viper like a 3-12 or 4-16, but I sapose that's why the viper is only a few bucks more.

Yep, the warranty I guess could take care of a lot. Not every review says the Viper Is crap above 12 power. Need to get my hands on one. I can't get use to the Burris Veracity w/ the FFP.  Not a bad scope, but not what I thought it would be. Thanks for the input.

(The Diamondback HP has been upgraded to ED glass. Extra-low dispersion glass increases resolution and color fidelity while XR fully multi-coated lenses maximize every minute of shooting light.) This is straight from Vortex. Better glass will trump higher magnification every time. Vortex is well known to bring out a new and better scope at a low introductory price.

It's true.  A few years back I was at the range with a couple of rifles.  One had a Pentax Lightseeker 3-11x43 the other a Zeiss Conquest 2-8x32.  The targets were much clearer and more defined when viewed thru the Conquest on 8x than the Pentax on 11x.  That's when the light went on for me.
