Outdoor Life Optical tests came out, and the Weaver Super Slam was rated #2 on the optical scale, with a optical image rating of B. I never can understand OL ratings, they seem inconsistent. The Vortex Viper PST was #6 in optical scale, and an image rating of B+.
Has anyone checked out the Weaver Super slams yet? Old Ornery

Not me.
I am usually skeptical of those ratings granted by advertising-driver publications. I notice how much everyone praises Leupold in magazines where every other page is a Leupold ad. I don't do OL so don't know if Weaver advertises or not. What else was on the scale? I considered getting a Weaver Tactical but read some reviews that didn't praise it much for the price (and these were real-world reviews, not magazine reviews.) |

I would be skeptical of any print that states the Weaver is ahead of the Vortex Viper PST.

Weaver Super Slam and Weaver Tactical are pretty nice scopes. All that notwithstanding, I think they use random number generator for Outdoor Life ratings. I would not put much stock in them. I think in some years past I saw them rank BSA alongside Schmidt and Bender.

That's what I said when I saw that. Except I said it in russian and there were a LOT more words involved. But the gist of it is the same. On the bright side, I have used pages of OL and a few other "outdoors" magazines for their... hmmm... natural purposes, and while the paper is a little rough it is serviceable. ILya

Greetings:
Some more information from Weaver: That scope is 50MOA. The scope is calibrated in MOA, with .25 MOA per click. Turret has 15 clicks per revolution. This is a first focal plane mill dot, but is not lighted. Only our Super Slam Euro scopes are lighted. Thanks, Dale Radcliffe ATK Technical Services A little short on the windage for a tactical scope. At least for me. Other than that, if the optics are good, it sounds like an ok scope, not great.
