Tried searching around but could not find an answer. I'm interested in one of these scopes, but have come across this whole green logo vs. white logo Weaver and Made in Japan vs. unlabeled.

My question is, does the current Weaver V3 live up to its reputation as a clear optics, reliable, high value scope for the money?

Is it still made in Japan?

This scope has received a lot of praise over the years, but this praise is at least 5 years back and older. I hate buying into a reputation that was established at a time when a scope was made better but that has changed in recent time. This has happened before when a product was great, and then was cheapened or altered over time. Trying to avoid that here.

If it's not the Weaver of the past that had such great praise as the best bang for the buck variable - I'll look for another low power variable.

Thanks,

I had that scope for a few months. I test all my scopes by mounting them on a .22 for a while and hunting deep woods for squirrel. Sometimes late in the evening for coyotes. I don't remember what i did not like on that scope, but i sold it 3 years ago. I replaced it with the Nikon Monarch 1-4x20 with no. 4 reticle. That scope is AWESOME. Excellent optics and rugged  scope.
