Just wondering what powder have the folks here used to get the best speed out of their 7mm Rem mag loads?
I'd also be interested in what was your best bang for buck powder (best speed with smaller loads). thanks. |

With the lighter bullets you might also try 4350. 4064 is probably going to be a bit fast-burning for the size of that case. 4831 would also be good one.

i'll be loading 160gr accubonds... the reason i ask about the IMR powders is that's what nosler has on their website for load data... http://www.nosler.com/Reloading-Data/7mm-Remington-Magnum-160-Grains.aspx

I run the 160 AB with Retumbo. Excellent combo. Either of the 4350s would be good for 140s. RL22 and RL25 would be worth a look also, but aren't as temp stable as Retumbo or H1000.

temp can definitely be a factor for me... hunting conditions can be anything from 10deg to 70deg. thanks for the suggestions.

IMR 7828 might work well.

I've used h1000 for mine, shooting from the mid 30's to up over 100 degrees I've seen no issues. I'm also loading on the milder side because thats what the gun likes though.

7828 has been my favorite powder for 160 Noslers.

A bunch of great powders mentioned so far...
The 4350s, 4831s and Hodgdon Hybrid 100V work well across the entire range of bullet weights. Haven't tried Rel17 in 7mag, but Rel 19 and Rel22 are also good. |

I use H4831 with loads from 30 yr old Sierra, Speer and Hornady manuals. No problems at all, but they are more than present manuals.....

Mine really likes Retumbo. That's the only powder I have tried in it, but it works so well that I called it good.

I get 3375 fps 150 gr Ballistic Tip moly from a 26" barrel with H4350.
That is NOT the published load. That is from working up to the threshold of long brass life and backing off 4% powder charge for margin. I can beat the published load for 7mmRM with that bullet with a 7x57mm Mauser and still get long brass life. There are white lies, lies, damn lies, and then there are 7mmRM published loads.

I'm with Bitterroot and RDFinn. For my 7Mags:
160-168 bullets: 71.5 gr Retumbo gives 3100 fps 150 BST: 69 gr H4831sc gives near 3200 fps Obviously work up to those. Bullets.010-.025 off lands. Bug holes. Published loads from loading manuals have really pussified the big 7. |

When I had a 7 mag I used it on varmints with 120 Nosler BT's & H4350 with great results I would guess the velocities were close to 3500 fps. Recoil and blast were a factor and the load density was about 85%.
