My wife and daughter were about to leave to go to school yesterday morning and this stopped my daughter as soon as she opened the door.
I've never seen a praying mantis this close.  This one was only about 2.5 inches long.

Beneficial critters.
If we're not suppose to eat animals...how come they're made of meat?

If you believe in such things... a praying mantis brings good luck, if in the house to all in the house.
Opinion,untempered by fact,is ignorance.

There are some who do not fear death... for they are more afraid of not really living

When they get up around 5 or 6 inches long they really are scary looking. Did you know the female eats the male after they mate.
Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

Talk about a deal breaker on the first date interview.

Him: So, what do you like?

Her: You know bugs, and preying around.

Him: Would you like to have kids?

Her: Sure, but after your assistance, I will be eating you, need all my energy.

Him: Huh?!?!

This thing was realy cool. He just sat on the door frame and let me take pictures. I did some looking into them more and read a lot. They are freocious predators but not poisonous like my work buddy said (I knew that). I have never heard about the good luck but good to know. The eating the mate part I think has always been morbidly cool like in the black widow. That's a bad bitch!

Same with women. They just wait a little longer. Then with the divorce, they gobble up everything. Sometimes they let the maimed man live, to suffer in agony the rest of his life.
Folks ain't got a sense of humor no more. They don't laugh they just get sore.

Need to follow the rules. Just hard to determine which set of rules to follow
Now the rules have changed again.

My vet told me that in the insect blood sucking parasite world that it's only the females that bite and suck blood. Males are only used for making offspring and don't bite. Guess there's not that much difference between humans and bugsBandito

I never knew that.

You know what we ought to have a photo contest with insects as the subject.

This is correct. Next time that skeeter is fixin' to suck, remember it's a female before you squish it.

Correct. I didn't realize that it was solely the female. I thought they both would.

Ya know, the best part of that meeting with the vet about those blood suckers, was the look on Mrs. BF's face and the razzing I gave her laterWink

I've seen quite a few mantises (?)  and walking sticks here in the yard in Grand Prairie and on the brick of the house.  We also have our little team of lizards that wander around the walls eating bugs....Lots of times the lizards get on the screen door and the glass panel at eye level. We open the door up carefully so they can get away...

Those stinking stink bugs have returned, and man are they pissed. Working on my shed yeterday, they were all over the place and just wouldn't leave us alone. One pf them landed on my friend's shoulder, crawled under his shirt and spooged him.

We have plenty of the pink little geckos on the bricks of the house looking for insects.  Sometimes they get closed up in the door jamb.  It was hot and dry this summer so we were spared the mosquito holocaust.
