Friends and I have been having bad experiences with Remington brass for a few months- it is the worst brass I've ever seen. I got a big sackful of once- fired Remington and was splitting the necks on 3 of the first 8 of a load batch... stopped right there. I thought it might be more than once- fired, but annealing a panful didn't help. Since then, several friends have had issues with Remington splitting/pulling off necks. A friend just bought a bag of 100 new .25-06 and couldn't load them. He's been warned, but no one in the country seemed to have any .25-06 brass, so he bought the Remington. He split almost every neck with seat operation and the few that made it failed with light crimp (Lee factory crimp die.) He had to trim a few after initial size operation and the chamfer tool was peeling away neck material- looked like brass on outside and copper inside, as if it were layers. He tried tumbling a handful to see if any flaws showed up and the normal dark necks from factory annealing turned copper color with a light tumble in media wet with Lemi- Shine. (I'm not sure if that is a problem.)
Had a friend shoot a Remy neck off- never found the neck, but it must have gone down the tube with a medium load in .30-06. It had no neck when he extracted it from chamber and the neck wasn't inside the chamber/bore and didn't fall out of the rifle. Never heard of such a thing. He called Remington and they allowed as how it was all his fault, so screw 'em, I've no trouble talking about their crappy brass. I haven't had any issues with Rem. pistol brass. |
