Hi folks,

Looking for a fairly long eye relief scout scope for mounting in front of the action on my 1892 clone .44 mag.

Seems I need at least 8-9" of eye relief.

Seems Leupold or Burris are the most obvious choices but happy to take advice!

I'd be inclined to go with the Loopy based on the extra 8mm of objective, but I'm no expert on scout scopes.
Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

I voted for Burris, since it has a bolder reticle, but both work fine.

Both of those will work, but I like this one the best on a lever action.

I would say the FOV on the scope Skylar brought up make s it a nice choice. I voted Leupy for a similar reason.
The Burris reticle is bold, though...............darn

That is a very nice scope, but it is substantially bigger than the fixed power versions.  I have not had a chance to experiment with that too much, but I would have to think it that for some of the lighter rifles, it will make a difference for balance.

I have been planning to do an article on scout scopes for a couple of years now, but I can never quite get to it.  Maybe this year.

Tried the VXR. Nice scope but the eye relief (6” - 6.9”) is a little short if you have to mount the optic in front of the action due to top eject.

Also Ilya has a point re balance.

On top of my 20” bbl take down it did make the rifle feel decidedly top heavy.

It is a nice scope. I just sold mine to someone for their 450 Marlin. The guy has an XS Sights scope rail on order so should be a sweet set up.
