I'm not sure if I'm in the right section but I couldn't find anything in the other sub-forums. What type of window mount do most of you use - ball type or 2-way axis? I've got a new Sandpiper coming and I don't trust my old Tasco mount but I do like it's 2-way pan except the tightening handlle is too long. Seems like the new trend is the ball type but how well do they work as a window mount? I've got a ball mount on a tripod for my Moultrie trail cam and the cam flops in every direction when I loosen it - will a spotting scope be more stable? Once the scope gets set, I would think panning horizontal would be the direction most used. Thanks.

2-way axis. The window of a vehicle is not the most stable mounting point to begin with. A ball mount works better when it is used with a camera because the camera frame needs to be level. On a spoting scope this will not be as important of an objective. The ball mount tripods have not provided as stable of a base as a locking axis for me.

Folks ain't got a sense of humor no more. They don't laugh they just get sore.
Need to follow the rules. Just hard to determine which set of rules to follow Now the rules have changed again. |
