Years ago, in the seventies, I worked offshore in the Gulf. Sometimes we took a boat out there because it was too stormy to fly.  After a twelve hour wave-crashing voyage we would get hauled aboard by Personnel Basket!  Bucky  Most everyone ( excluding Your Host!! Big Grin ) was already Fatally Seasick....Puker

Imagine doing this off the deck of a heaving ship in a Tropical Storm!   Bucky

Here's a 'floater' during a storm somewhere in the world....there were jack-ups ( legs on the seabed), platforms, and semi-submersibles ( floaters ).  After a week or two on a floater, you'd have to get your land-legs back when you returned to land!

" Where Ed was working was International Waters.  The US, and most countries on Earth, claim a 12 mile Territorial Water area along their coastlines.  Recently, President Jackass was talking about giving up the USAs Territorial Water to the UN. We don't know what's going on there..."

In 1959, John Wayne and crew filmed THE HORSE SOLDIERS in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

Well, I guess it was filmed in 1958.....

In the movie there was the schoolmaster and his little corps of cadets from the local military school.....

One of the little boys was pulled out of line by his mother ( by his ear!! ) and yanked back home. ( You can see her coming in the background in this picture! ) She didn't want him to go get killed in the battle.  However, the little feller scrambled out of a back window and ran down the street to join his comrades.

I knew a guy in the oilfield in Shreveport who went to school with that kid!  My friend said that John Wayne and crew threw a barbeque for the whole town.
