Does anyone own this particular scope? Durable and bright?   I know a guy selling one and have contemplated getting it. Is the 56mm diavari THAT much better in lowlight than this 42mm?

Yes.  Generally speaking the larger the objective the more light as long as you are comparing apples to apples.  A smaller objective in a quality optic will usually give clearer picture than a average scope with a larger objective.  But thats just my experience.

I see everything as a trade off. I've never kept any 50mm or larger scopes. I much prefer lighter scopes mounted lower. You may see some difference in last light performance, but for me it is a very small difference and not my top priority in choosing a scope. I've never not been able to make a shot in legal light even with an old 2-7X28 VariX Leupold. The only time I might choose a large objective scope is if I were legally night hunting hogs.

I had one for a while and I wish I would have kept it. It was great in low light but has a thin plex reticle(2nd focal plane) that is not great in low light. Managable, but not great.

I would not have considered it durable. If I bumped it pretty good, it would need to be re-sighted. And it has plastic turret caps. I broke one of mine one day when my gun slipped out of my hand and bumped my nerf bar step on my truck. Not a big deal but I have had some older Swarovski's and now have some Schmidt and Benders that can take a lick and still be dead on.
